Matthew 5:14-16

"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bring out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-barers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand - shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

My prayer for today:

Heavenly Father,
I am overwhelmed with this scripture today and the weight of its words.
It is hard to believe that you would trust your light in somebody as ordinary as I am.
I take your light for granted.
When you place me on the mountain top to shine your light... sometimes I mistake your light for mine.
You ask us to be open - but most of the time I close myself off from the opportunities you place before me.

Help me to reflect your light in love.
Help me to stand in confidence.
Help me to be generous and open.

Provide specific opportunities for me to stand firm and share your light today.

Thank you for entrusting me with your grace and love today and everyday.

Amen.
